Флора и фауна Якутии

FLORA AND FAUNA OF YAKUTIA
Yakutia’s nature is diverse. It includes the tundra, the taiga and the forest-steppe natural zones. Forests occupy the most part of the republics territory, that’s why Yakutia is often called a taiga kingdom. In clean and fair coniferous and mixed forests you can see pine-trees, fir-trees, larches, birches, cedars, abies, poplars, aspens and many others kinds of trees. The ground in the taiga is over-grown with moss, grass, mushrooms and berries. In the taiga we gather red whortleberries, bilberries, great bilberries and currants, strawberries, raspberries, hips, birdcherries and ashberries. In central Yakuta on the banks of the Lena lies the forest-steppe which is covered with a colourful carpet of flowers, grass and with grain fields. The tundra lies in the north of the coast of the Arctic Ocean. In it you can find dwarf trees, licken and moss. In the tundra live a white bear, a polar fox, a reindeer and some other animals. The taiga abounds in sables, foxes, hares, squirrels, siberian weasel. Near the water you can find musk-rats and others. Among birds there are a wood-grouse, a hazel-grouse, a partridre and a heath- cock. On the lakes and rivers you can see ducks, swans and geese. Our seas and rivers are rich in fish such as an omul, a sig, sturgeon, a white salmon, a pike, an eelpot. Rich and untouched lands attract tourists from all over the world. Taiga and tundra are excellent places for rest.

Якутский орнамент

Yakut ornament
The traditional applied art of the Yakut illustrates the people’s idea of beauty and provides a glimpse into their world outlook which has retained its religious and mythological basis; the belief in spirits, animism and totemistic zoomorphic cults. The folk art was sung in the epos “Olonho”. The goddess of fertility Iyisyt transferred secrets of skills to handicrafts from mother to daughter. The Yakut ornament was used in clothes, house utensils, jewelry, in especially colourfully decorated cheprak, kuchim. The traditional geometrical and vegetative ornament was used. Motives of ornament are rich and various. It is the twisted stalk, not opened flowers, buds, round berries, patterns from leaves, S-figurative curls. The embroidered images communicated, first of all, with exorcism magic and defense from malicious spirits. Magic value of an ornament "tanalay" is connected with ancient understanding of the person that this ornament is "staircase" between the world the terrestrial and top world of the maximum deities. In the terrestrial world the destiny and happiness of the person depends on them benevolent. Middle - world "ground" is reflected by ornamental compositions animal and vegetative kinds - a pattern the cow in a fur coat, motives vegetative on mittens, torbasakhs. Favorite’s colors of the Yakut are red and black, green, yellow, brown, dark blue go then. Black - terrestrial, green - vegetation, red - related, dark blue - heavenly, yellow - solar, white - light. In an ornament "tanalay" there are no corners, only lines. Sprouts symbolize posterity (children, grandsons) .Sprouts directed downwards the bottom part of an ornament protect from the bottom world. The more twisting lines, the beter protection is. Special ritually - symbolic the composition of ornaments at the edge and gear of choron has sense. Якутская национальная одежда, еда

Yakut national clothes
Yakut national clothes are very comfortable both for hot summer and cold winter. They were mainly made of natural materials: fur, shammy, softly dressed reindeer skin, wool, silk, leather, red or black cloth. Winter clothes are made of reindeer skin, different kinds of fur and reindeer leg pelts. Men’s fur coats buuktaakh son, tangalai son are trimmed with precious fur and red broadcloth. They are very colourful. There are two kinds of high boots. Winter high boots are made of reindeer leg pelts. Trimmings richly embroidered with beads decorate woman’s winter high boots. In old times poor people wore high boots made of reindeer and cow skins without any decoration. They are very light and durable. Caps with ear-flaps made of fox paws were very popular with rich Yakuts. Poor people wore caps sewn from hare skin. Men’s and women’s fur caps decorated with “horns” were very interesting. Fur caps djabaka sewn from different precious furs with embroidered chopchuur on top look very smart. Smart woman’s dress with a jacket were embroidered with beads and decorated with ornaments, the main motives being a lyre and herring-bone pattern. The favourite colours were red and black, followed by green, brown, yellow and blue. Silver decorations are part of Yakut holiday costumes. Silver front and back decorations are very impressive. Every Yakut woman has silver ear-rings with pendants. Silver rings and bracelets are very popular too.

Климат в нашем районе

Climate in our region

We live in Mirny. It is in the Jar North, in Yakutia. The climate of our region is sharp-continental, because of its geographical position. In winter the weather is sever and cold, but in summer it is hot. The lowest temperature is 55 degrees below zero. Everything is white with snow and ice covers rivers and lakes for a long time. Sharp frosts come to Mirny and people put on warm cloves. When the wind blows, it is very cold outdoors. The houses have double windows to keep the warmth in. In winter the days are very short, and the nights are very long. In Mirny spring begins only in April. The weather gets warmer and the snow melts quickly. At the end of May the trees are covered with green leaves and the taiga becomes greener and more beautiful. Summer is short and often hot. The temperature rises above 30. There are no nights here in summer. Nights are light as days. Autumn is usually rainy and windy. The sky is always covered with clouds. Then it snows and winter comes for 6 months.

Добро пожаловать в Якутию!

Welcome to Yakutia
Mysterious and rigorous Yakutia is situated in the north-east of Russia. Currently its territory constitutes over three million square kilometers, but only one million people live on this vast territory. These are mainly Yakuts, Russians and Ukrainians. The indigenous population is mostly represented by Evenks, Evens, Chuckchee and Yukaghirs. Today Yakytia is established itself as one of perspective industrial/ scientific and cultural centers of Siberia. Far beyond the borders of the country, people know well the Yakut Branch of the Academy of Science which unites major research institutes. Since 1922 Yakutia has been an autonomous republic within the RSFSR. Yakuysk, Mirmy and Nierungri are the most important cities of the republic. Yakutia’s history accounts for over 3,5 centuries. Russian explorers were the first to step on this land overcoming giant expanses of the tundra and taiga, impassable mountains ranges, boggy lands dotted with dozens of lakes. Yakutia's nature is diverse including the Arctic tundra on the coast of the North Artic Ocean and the rocky mountains of the Aldan plateau southwards. The climate is sharply continental. Winters are extremely cold (down to -50C). In summer the sun doesn't set for many days, while in winter the Polar night reigns there long, long months. The inimitable Lena River flows as long as 4,5 thousand kilometers. The voyage aboard the comfortable pleasure boat from the river's source to its mouth will impress you immensely. Fishing will be real pleasure for anglers. A small Yakut settlement of Oimyakon - the Pole of Cold in the Northern Hemisphere - can rightly be called one of the planet's world's wonders. The meteorologists registered there the planet's lowest temperature - -70C. So, we can say with full right that Yakutia is the only land with really severe frosts. Rigorous climatic conditions of the Pole of Cold are in no way harmful for man's health. You can see it for yourselves if you visit this unique place. In Yakutia you'll have an opportunity to try your skill in the traditional hunting expedition to kill a bear, or a wolf, or an elk and reindeer. During the hunting expeditions you'll be accompanied by a guide-huntsman and professional hunters. In memory of your exotic trip to Yakutia you can buy some hunting gear, souvenirs with original national ornaments made of silver, furs, tusks of mammoths, Dauria birch wood, rare semi-precious stones which can be found only in Yakutia. Yakutia is a wonderful land which has no equals in the world.
